Oh no, WT, I can readily picture it... Diamond expecting worship, yikes...

at some point he must have inflated his inner tube way past the red zone...

on a side note, a 1967 interview with Garcia was very kind or at least fair-minded re: The Monkess (for whom Diamond wrote their biggest hit, "I'm A Believer", which was possibly the biggest hit of '66 period - maybe that helped blow his ego out of proportion...
But on the other hand, he couldn't well walk up to Dylan and say,
"I'm the guy who wrote The Monkees biggest hit!"

It seems now that he can't remember much prior to "A Star Is Born" or the Streisand years...

whatever cool he once had seems to be long evaporated...
so I'm with you, laughing with the Band behind his back just a little bit!
